Do you want to come closer with your iPhone 5?

Do you want to come closer with your iPhone 5?

We have reviewed a telescope lens and a microscope lens for iPhone 5. Sceptically we unpacked the equipment. What could it be worth for that money?

This is not something that will produce high quality images, but neither does your mobile. Sure, the your smartphone is all right but it lacks some features for serious photography. You can’t use proper accessories like tripods or a real flash, you can’t shoot in RAW format and the lens will be dirty from your hands and pocket. It is however fine for taking pictures of stuff you want to remember, it’s always in you pocket and it’s easy to share photos through social media.

These accessories are in parity with your mobile. They’ll bring you closer but the result will not be the same as with an DSLR with a macro- or tele lens. And we might add that they are quite fun to have as well.

Put on the light and hold the lens against the object you want to shoot. We were using a 2 Euro coin.

A big part of the image is lost, sinse it's mounted a bit from the lens.

Mini Microscope for iPhone with up to 60 times magnification

This little microscope comes with one magnifying lens attached to a 3 led light unit connected by a small hinge. Mount it on a case for iPhone 5 and you’re ready to take some really close images.

The use for this little gadget is somewhat limited. You can only take pictures of really small objects (around 10 mm in size). You can for instance take a picture of a part of a flower, but not the entire flower.

We have a hard time thinking of a serious use. Maybe if you want to document the fabric of a cloth, electrical components or similar.

Only a small part of the photo will show the actual motive, since the lens is mounted on a little distance, from the phone. But it’s still an amusing gadget if you have an eye for details.

12x zoom telescope camera lens for iPhone 5

This Telescope lens comes with a case to connect it to your iPhone and a mini tripod. And you’ll need the latter, since the light iPhone 5 is almost impossible to hold steady by hand with a 12 times zoom lens.

You need to focus the lens manually. This lens will not compare with at DSLR with a telescopic lens, but it brings you much closer to distant motives without loosing a lot in quality, as with digital zooming, which are actually just cropping the image for you. And if you ever wanted to shoot telescopic images with your phone this is a fun thing to have.
